The funding fee is a one-time charge on a VA-backed or VA direct home loan, calculated as a percentage of the loan amount. For purchase and construction loans it depends on your down payment and whether this is your first use.

Pairing a VA Loan with RIHousing

RIHousing’s down payment assistance programs, 15kDPA, Extra Assistance and FirstGenHomeRI, each require a RIHousing-funded first mortgage, and RIHousing notes there may be restrictions on which of its loan products can be paired with 15kDPA. If you are a first-time buyer using VA, ask a RIHousing Participating Lender or the RIHousing Loan Center which options fit your loan.
